Risograph Print vs Standard Print for Home Decor

Quick answer

If you want a handcrafted, textured look with vibrant, layered colors, choose a Risograph print like Get Lost or Fresh Fruits from Lucky Horse Press. If you need precise, photo-realistic detail or a wider color range, a standard print is a better fit.

Why the printing process matters for decor

Risograph printing uses stencils and soy-based inks to create a distinct, slightly imperfect look. Each layer of color is applied separately, which can result in slight misregistration and a tactile, screen-printed feel. Standard digital or offset prints offer sharp, consistent color reproduction and are better for photographic images or designs with many colors.

For home decor, the choice affects the mood of the piece. A Risograph print adds warmth and a handmade quality, while a standard print feels clean and modern. Consider the existing style of your room before deciding.

What you get with Lucky Horse Press Risograph prints

Lucky Horse Press produces Risograph prints on quality paper stock. The Get Lost Risograph Print (14 × 11 inches) and Fresh Fruits Risograph Print (11 × 14 inches) are both printed on 100 lb. text paper and ship flat, making them easy to frame. The Nice Meal Risograph Print (11 × 14 inches) offers a standard Risograph finish.

These prints have a limited color palette per design, which is part of their artistic charm. They are not reproductions of photographs but original illustrations designed for the Riso process.

Trade-offs to consider

Color accuracy: Standard prints can match any color exactly. Risograph prints have a fixed set of ink colors, so the final look depends on how the artist layered them.

Texture and finish: Risograph prints have a slight texture from the ink and paper. Standard prints are often smoother and may have a gloss or matte coating.

Cost: Risograph prints from Lucky Horse Press are priced between $14.40 and $16.80, often less than a custom standard print of similar size. However, standard prints can be more affordable for large quantities or if you need a specific finish.

Risograph vs standard: quick trade-offs

• Choose Risograph if: You value a handmade, artistic look with layered, slightly imperfect colors. You want a conversation piece that feels unique.
• Choose standard print if: You need precise color matching, photographic detail, or a consistent finish across multiple prints. You prefer a clean, modern aesthetic.
• Consider the frame: Risograph prints from Lucky Horse Press ship flat, so you can use a standard frame. Their 11×14 and 14×11 sizes fit common frame sizes, but always measure your frame before ordering. Check your frame dimensions to avoid a mismatch.

Product facts

• Get Lost Risograph Print: Get Lost is a Risograph print sized 14 × 11 inches and ships flat. The larger horizontal format works well above a sofa or bed, and the flat shipping means no creases to worry about.

• Fresh Fruits Risograph Print: Fresh Fruits is printed on 100 lb. text paper using the Riso process. The heavier paper gives the print a substantial feel, and the Riso ink creates a vibrant, matte finish that resists glare.
